PREA Compliance in New Mexico: Mock Audit Training – Deming

New Mexico Coalition of Sexual Assault Programs, Inc. presents:
PREA Compliance in New Mexico: Mock Audit Training

Free 2 ½ day Mock Audit Training at Luna County Detention Center
Facilities invited to participate: Hidalgo, Luna, Grant, Dona Ana, Sierra, Otero
Only 2 participants per facility

In class training 1 ½ days via online platform: May 3rd 8:30 – 4:30 and May 4th 8:30 – 1:00
In person facility tour 1 day May 5th 8:30 – 4:30
Registration deadline: April 5th
Audit files deadline (files will be assigned by April 5th): April 16 or earlier all files to be turned into Jillian Shane, Trainer and Auditor

Trainer, Auditor and Investigator: Jillian Shane

Ms. Shane has worked in corrections at state and local level in both private and public facilities for nearly 17 years. Jillian was recently employed as the Inspector General and PREA Coordinator by the State of New Mexico Corrections Department for six years. During that time, in addition to the PREA Department, she oversaw all policies and their subsequent distribution, application, investigations for violations thereof and compliance; worked with the Office of General Counsel on the consent decree compliance for the adult prisons; oversaw all audits and corrective actions in all facilities, oversaw all contract oversight and penalty assessments for private facilities in the state.

Ms. Shane was Chair of the Western States PREA Consortium and was integral in setting up and organizing the first National PREA Coordinator Conference. To date, Ms. Shane has completed nearly fifty (50) PREA Audits Nationwide.

Prior to her employment with the State, she worked as a lieutenant/unit manager at a County Detention Center. Before moving to New Mexico, she worked for Corrections Corporation of America at Northeast Ohio Correctional Center. During her tenure there, she served as an instructor, executive assistant, public information officer, grievance officer, and PREA coordinator. Also, Ms. Shane has conducted cultural assessments at other facilitates nationwide to help implement positive change.

Ms. Shane earned her bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice at Youngstown State University, Youngstown, Ohio. Ms. Shane has completed all coursework for her Master’s Degree and is working on the completion of her thesis. She is currently working as head of her consulting firm and works as an Investigator for the Inspector General of Albuquerque. In addition, she has open contracts with the PREA Resource Center as a Peer Review Auditor and Technical Assistance Administrator and with the American Jail Association. She has completed advocacy training through the Rape Crisis Center and has conducted numerous trainings with advocates in regards to prison, PREA and the offender population.
