During this Sexual Assault Awareness Month, we hon During this Sexual Assault Awareness Month, we honor the lifesaving work of Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANEs) like those at Christus St. Vincent, who help survivors reclaim their power with care and compassion. In a time when healthcare staffing shortages are prevalent, the dedicated SANEs at Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center in Santa Fe stand out. Serving communities across northern New Mexico - including Santa Fe, San Miguel, Rio Arriba, Los Alamos, Mora, and Colfax counties, these professionals provide compassionate, trauma-informed care to survivors of sexual assault.

The Santa Fe New Mexican recently featured their work which includes an unwavering commitment to ensure that survivors receive the support they need to reclaim their power and begin healing. This success underscores a vital truth: when we invest in community-centered care, we build resilient systems that deliver, even amidst broader challenges.

Learn more about their impactful work in this recent article from the Santa Fe New Mexican at the link in our bio.
📢 Spotlight on Solace Sexual Assault Services i 📢 Spotlight on Solace Sexual Assault Services in Santa Fe 📢

This Sexual Assault Awareness Month, we’re proud to highlight the prevention education and survivor support happening everyday at @solacesaservices in Santa Fe. At Solace, prevention starts early. Through school-based programs and youth education initiatives, Solace is working to break cycles of violence before they start - empowering young people with the tools, knowledge, and support they need to build safer, healthier communities.

Alongside their trauma-informed care and advocacy for survivors, Solace’s prevention efforts are a crucial part of New Mexico’s strong, statewide network of providers, educators, and advocates. Even with resources being cut, the work continues because of the investment and infrastructure our communities have built to care for survivors — and to prevent harm from happening in the first place.

White boxes include quotes from a Santa Fe New Mexican article that reads “When clients walk in Solace's front door, Rodriguez Cadiz said, 'Dignity is the first thing we want them to feel." Part of instilling that dignity is ensuring victims of sexual violence don't have to make seperate trips to undergo a sexual assault examination, report the crime to police or receive therapy, Deibel said. 'Here it can all be done in the same location - and then you can even come to find your therapist here,' she added, 'And so, it's this beautiful model that I was really blown away by when I moved here and learned what Solace was doing.'"

Six months in, the @nmsahelp is already making a powerful impact! We are thrilled to celebrate this vital new resource during Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

KRQE recently featured the helpline, New Mexico’s first centralized resource connecting survivors statewide to the care and support they need through call, text, and online chat. 📞💻

With over 300 contacts made and support reaching more than half of New Mexico’s counties so far, the Helpline is expanding the capacity of sexual assault services across the state. As Deputy Director of Programs Rachel Cox shared, "The New Mexico Sexual Assault Helpline is adding a layer of capacity to our statewide sexual assault services that already exist."

When we invest in survivor-centered infrastructure, we build a network where every community can access care, connection, and healing.

Learn more about the helpline's success in this recent interview with KRQE, available at the link in our bio.

This month is about more than reminding the world that survivors are part of all of our communities. It's also about advocating for change.

Advocating so that all survivors have the support they need to heal.

And most importantly, advocating for change that addresses the root causes of sexual violence like racism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism and all other oppression so that we can build a truly violence free world!
